| | | Return to: Programs (A-Z) The Associate of Full general Studies (AGS) degree will be awarded to students who complete a curriculum generally designed to come across wide educational goals. The AGS may exist earned through coursework that includes lower-division collegiate and constituent courses, or a combination of courses that includes career-technical educational activity. Due to this degree'southward flexibility, information technology is not considered to exist a transfer degree. It does not guarantee access to a iv-year institution, nor does it ensure all lower-division general education requirements have been met. Students should work closely with an Academic Counselor to craft a caste plan appropriate to their educational goals. Learning Outcomes Students who complete this caste volition accept a broad cognition base cultivated through coursework that spans a diversity of discipline areas. This degree is aligned with Lane'southward Core Learning Outcomes. Guidelines - Complete a total of 90 credits of college-level coursework (see notes).
- Complete at least 24 credits at Lane.
- Foundational Skills and Discipline Studies courses must exist a minimum of 3 credits, except for Health/Health/Fitness courses, which may be any number of credits.
- All Elective courses may be whatsoever number of credits.
- Complete all Foundational Skills with a grade of "C-" or better, or Laissez passer.
- Consummate all Discipline Studies and Elective courses with a grade of "D-" or ameliorate, or Pass.
- Maximum 16 credits "P" may be used toward degree. This limit does not include courses only offered P/NP.
- Cumulative GPA must be at least 2.0 at the time the Acquaintance of General Studies degree is awarded.
| Foundational Skills Foundational Skills must be completed with a grade of "C-" or better, or Pass. Mathematics MTH 052 satisfies this degree requirement but does not meet college-level requirements. Students who use developmental math to meet this requirement need to reach 90 credits total of college-level coursework to meet degree requirements. - MTH 052 - Math for Health and Physical Sciences 4 Credit(s) or higher-level Math grade
Wellness/Wellness/Fitness Complete one or more than courses, totaling at least three credits, from the Health/Wellness/Fitness list. Subject field Studies Complete sixteen credits of Bailiwick Studies requirements, including ane course from each discipline beneath. Additional credits to come across a minimum of 16 credits may be completed from any discipline beneath. Discipline Studies must be completed with a grade of "D-" or better, or Laissez passer. Arts and Messages Complete a minimum of i grade from the Arts and Letters list. Social Science Complete a minimum of i class from the Social Science list. Scientific discipline/Math/Computer Science Complete a minimum of 1 grade from the Science/Math/Figurer Science listing. Notes: Mathematics: Higher-level mathematics (MTH 105 or higher) may be used to encounter this requirement. Biology:100-level Biology courses are not repeatable. Students may only use one BI 101, one BI 102, and i BI 103 to meet requirements for any Lane degree, regardless of letter option. Reckoner Programming: Information science courses are not repeatable. Students taking their starting time programming linguistic communication (C++, .Cyberspace, or Python) will take CS 161 and 162. Because CS 161 and 162 are not repeatable courses, students taking a 2d programming language must utilise the CS 133 and 233 class numbers. Please contact the department or your academic advising team for details. Electives Any college-level courses that bring total credits to 90 credits. Courses completed may include any combination of lower-division collegiate and/or career technical education courses. All courses must exist 100-level or higher and may include: - Upward to eighteen credits of Cooperative Instruction may exist included as electives. Cooperative Education courses identified equally Career Technical Education courses count toward the 12-credit maximum for Career Technical Education.
- Upwardly to 12 credits of Private Music Lessons (MUP).
- 12 credits of Concrete Teaching activeness (PE, PEAT, PEO) and/or Dance activeness may exist included within the entire degree.
- WR 115 may be included in the degree equally an elective if completed summer 1999 or afterward.
- Transfer policies regarding Career Technical Didactics Courses vary by institution. Students planning to transfer should contact their bookish advisor for help determining appropriate courses.
Notes - College-level courses are numbered 100 or college. Courses numbered 001-099 identify developmental courses (e.g. RD 090), with the exception of ENG 110, 116, 117; MTH 100, RD 115, WR 110, 120 and WR 115 (taken before summertime 1999), which are besides considered developmental.
- Foundational Skills are open to demonstration of proficiency. For information on waiver testing or credit for prior learning, contact an bookish advisor. Waiver testing is not the same as placement testing.
- 200-level second language courses count toward the Arts and Messages requirement. American Sign Language (ASL) is considered a 2nd language.
- University second language admission requirements for transfer students graduating high schoolhouse 1997 or later include one of the following:
- 2 terms of the same college-level 2nd linguistic communication with an average course of C- or above.
- Two years of the same loftier schoolhouse-level second language with an average course of C- or higher up.
- Satisfactory performance on an approved 2d linguistic communication cess of proficiency.
- Demonstrated proficiency in American Sign Language meets second language admission requirements.
- Credit-past-Exam and Credit-by-Assessment may comprise no more than 25% of total degree credits.
- Repeatable courses may be used one time to meet a Bailiwick Studies requirement. Any additional commanded repeats may be used to meet Constituent requirements.
- Some courses are included on more than than ane Subject field Studies listing. These courses may exist used only once to meet a specific Subject Studies requirement. Please contact your bookish adisor for details.
- Lower-division college-level courses taken at Lane will not always come across the same requirements an upper-division college-level grade with similar content does at a four-year transfer institution. In such cases, the course(s) in question will generally transfer as an elective. Please contact specific four-year schools for details.
- Courses numbered 197, 198, 199, 280, 297, 298, or 299 count as electives and do not come across Foundational Skills or Subject Studies requirements. Courses numbered 199 and 299 are experimental and may later exist reviewed and approved to see Discipline Studies requirements.
- The AGS is non ideal for students planning to transfer to a four-yr institution. However, some students may benefit from the flexible framework of the AGS and use it for transfer on a limited basis. Students planning to transfer should piece of work closely with their academic counselor.
